Anita Kanwar is an Indian film and television actress who earned her popularity after she successfully portrayed the role of Lajoji, the wife of Master Haveliram (played by Alok Nath Alok Nath is an Indian television and Bollywood fi >> Read More... ) in the television series, Buniyaad which was aired on DD National in year 1986.

Anita usually acted in school and she was in college when she saw an adaptation of Ibrahim Alkazi’s Look Back in Anger. It was then when she realized what she wanted to be, an actress. She attended and graduated from the National School of Drama and trained under the popular, Mr. Ibrahim Alkazi himself in 1978. She never thought of doing any television shows or act in the big screen since all she wanted to do was to act in theater. Until she realized that she also need to survive life and theater won’t provide her needs. She moved to Mumbai but initially, she struggled so much and had no work for quite too long, until she was cast in Buniyaad. But after this, there was no work for her again and she was typecast for her character in Buniyaad. That’s when she decided to leave Mumbai and lived in Delhi.

She also acted in 1985 Hindi autobiographical film, Janam by Mahesh Bhatt Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt created a niche for himself >> Read More... . She played as Rekha in Mira Nair’s ‘Salaam Bombay!’ and bagged the role of Rekha in 1988, where she earned nomination at for Best Supporting Actress at the Filmfare Award. Later, she has done a tomboy character in the Hindi film, Thodasa Roomani Ho Jaayen. After Buniyaad, Anita also acted in the television serial, Pukar. It was her last performance in the screen before she took a six-year hiatus from the industry. When she returned, she was starred on another crime-based serial entitled, Saboot where she bagged the role of Inspector KC, a CBI Officer. Later, she acted in the television serial, Shanti as Indu Singh.
