Joy Mathur is Muslim by religion. He has studied at Delhi University, but now is a Mumbaikar, who knows Haryanvi language very well, along with Hindi & English. He likes to read novels, specifically, romantic and emotional novels. He likes emotional movies like Braveheart, Titanic, Shindler's List, Pursuit of Happyness, Seven Pounds and Guzaarish.

Joy is desirous for directing a film. He has written scripts of Bhookhe and Victim. He has produced a short film- Half Murder. Joy has special affection towards animals, mainly dogs and cats. He has special feelings for under privileged children. He is anti-war/ anti-conflict, hates violence, anti-alcohol/ anti-smoking and resists killing of animals for food.
