British composer Nainita Desai works in writing music for movies, television shows, and video games. Her Indian parents brought up Nainita in London, where she was born. She has a degree in mathematics and attended the National Film and Television School to study sound design. She attended City University London and the University of Westminster. She studied the violin, piano, guitar, sitar, singing, and other instruments as a result of her varied musical upbringing. For the movies Little Buddha, Lessons of Darkness, and Death Machine, she began her career as a sound designer. She is renowned for the music she composed for the video game Telling Lies as well as the movies For Sama, The Reason I Jump, and American Murder.
Nainita was recognized as a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit in 2016. Nainita's musical roots are in world music, and she moves fluidly between working orchestras while fusing her collection of custom-made instruments, electronics, found sound, and songwriting. This has led to collaborations with artists like Eivor (The Last Kingdom), and she has also written documentary musicals like the highly regarded BBC Production City of Dreams A Musical.
Her immersive method entails extensively studied collaborations to locate those voices that are not typically heard, creating really unique sounds. She also has a background in sound design, which propels her powerful emotive compositions. Nainita is a member of the Ivors Academy Senate, the PRS Film Committee, and other committees. Additionally, she serves as an ambassador for Screen Skills UK, is a full voting member of AMPAS, BAFTA, and Emmys, and regularly serves on juries for the Emmys, BAFTAs, RTS, and other significant industry honors. She frequently conducts master classes and interviews about her work at events like the Royal College of Music, NFTS, World Soundtrack Awards Ghent, Royal Academy of Music, Cannes Film Festival, LA Comic Con USA, Rio de Janeiro Brazil, Sheffield Doc Fest, Soundtrack Cologne, Moshita Music Conference South Africa, Sundane 2020, and WOMEX in Copenhagen. She is in high demand internationally.
