Ashhar Farooqui hails from Dehradun, Uttarakhand. He currently living in Delhi, India. He is recognized for Much Ado About Knotting (2012), The Desire for Desires (2018), Being Bhaijaan (2018), and Good Night (2008). He is a self-employed sound and visual artist as well as a composer. He works on new music and characters most of the time in a mud-built home he built in the Uttarakhand hills. He has always used words from Urdu and has grown up speaking Hindi. Ashhar continues to be involved with IJA, Passenger Revelatory, and of course Toymob.
Under the name Toymob, he has developed a wholly unique sound that is a rich amalgamation of analogue gear, distressed vocal samples, and carefully managed microphone feedback. He has contributed to the creation of a number of independent films over the course of his distinguished career in India's creative scene, including Site Mapping (2011), Online and Available (2011), Out Of Thin Air (2009), Goodnight (2008), etc. Additionally, he wrote the villain's theme for Byomkesh Bakshy by Dibaker Banerjee. His projects also include Pyaas - The Thirst, Bilkul, and his second EP, Zabardast. The focus of Project Bilkul is "language and poetics."
