Gurpreet Rana was born on 20th May 1978 and grew up in Gurdaspur, Punjab. He went to Govt. Senior Secondary School, Ajnala, and completed his degree at Punjabi University. Since he had an interest in cinema and filmmaking, he did a six-month diploma in theatre. He also learned direction at Pracheen Kala Kendra, which is the premier educational organization that teaches Indian classical arts of music, dance, and fine arts.
