Avani Rai is an Indian photographer, filmmaker, and artist. Her father’s name is Raghu Rai, a famous Indian photographer. She has worked on numerous short films, documentaries and photo essays. As an actor, she worked in Two Sisters and a Husband (2022). Following her father on his trip to Kashmir, she released Raghu Rai: An Unframed Portrait, in which she worked as the director and writer, in 2017; a documentary with Raghu Rai’s narration where he tells the history of the place of over fifty years through his photographs.
She has done photo essays on the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, covering its after-effects years after the incident, the Kashmir Story, and the Chennai Water Crisis. As an art photographer, she released the “dot” series. Her works have been published in publications of national and international level: Vogue, The Wire, GQ, Architectural Digest, Sunday Guardian, and Scroll, among others.
