Hindi Creative Director Gia Singh Arora

Gia Singh Arora is an experimental artist, filmmaker, performer, and dancer by profession. She was born on 27 April 1996 in Mumbai, India. She completed her undergraduate studies at Ashoka University, where she studied English Literature and Performing Arts. Gia always tries to practice performance arts, filmmaking, and Somatic movements. She developed an interest in dancing from childhood and became a trained Odissi dancer.

Gia tries to focus and capture dance on film rather than on stage. Her talent can be seen by how she allows the body to share its story and not the verbal expression. Being a trained Odissi dancer, she has performed in festivals such as ISKON, Mumbai, Girnar Festival, Gujarat, and Yoga Pela Paz, Brazil. She has also worked on an independent project, The Performance Room. This project invites people so that they get the opportunity to experience a subjective reality through the trained movement by using Somatic Movement practice.

A small part of this project was showcased at the Irregulars Art Fair, in Delhi, India. She presented her Literature Program. Through this program, she presented a paper titled Balancing Acts. Gia is also a member of the team at a production house known as DJ’s Creative Unit. She worked in the creative team, did research, and developed stories for digital platforms. She also completed an internship at a boutique firm production company in Mumbai, India. She used to travel by train to reach her workplace.

She traveled from Delhi to Jahangirpuri. She used to observe different types of women on the trains, some looking out of the window in tension, some crying, and some on their phones. These women inspired her to make a film about women in trains. She also gave a documentary called Innocense, which documents a woman who lived experiences of child sexual abuse. Gia loves to continue her exploration of performance and dance through the medium of film, by driving away from conventional storytelling and experiencing reality through her mindful thoughts.

She directed various short videos and documentaries. Aam (Experimental, short), Look Its Me (Documentary, Experimental, Short), and Empire (Experimental, Music Video) are some of them.
