Sanjana Kapoor is the Daughter of the highly acclaimed and respected personality in Bollywood, Shashi Kapoor Shashi Kapoor, a name that needs no introduction, >> Read More... and Jennifer Kendal. She is the granddaughter to PrithviRaj Kapoor, who was also an extremely acclaimed actor. Her maternal grandparents Geoffrey Kendal and Laura Kendal are also stage performers who travelled Asia performing different acts. She studied at the Bombay International School.
She is a stage performer but has appeared in movies as well. She realised her passion for acting at a tender age and thus she started attending the Prithvi Theatre in Juhu to pursue her dream. She first featured in movies produced by her father like 36 Chowringhee Lane (1981), Utsav (1984), and Hero Hiralal (1988). She came into appreciation through Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay in 1988 after which she didn’t sign for any movie. She resumed with her theatre performances with plays like Rashomon where she portrays the Japanese wife.
She has served and worked to run the Prithvi Theatre since 1993 to 2012. In 2011, she launched her theatre firm, Junoon, which organises plays at small venues in the city for the people who travel to do plays in different cities. She is married to Valmik Thapar, who is an animal activist and has a son with him, Hamir Thapar.
