Jehan Manekshaw is an acclaimed actor, director, entrepreneur, and teacher. He lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He went to Wesleyan University, where he studied a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre. He went to the New York Film Academy. In 2001, he went to Goldsmiths, University of London, where he studied Transnational Media and Global Communications and Media Studies. He studied at Birkbeck, University of London, where he studied Theatre Directing and Producing.
He worked as a creative producer and in associate roles at Tangram Theatre Company. In 2006, he worked at St. Xavier’s College as a visiting faculty and mentor. He is the co-founder and director of Theatre Professionals Education, focusing on integrating drama into school curricula as a tool for enhancing learning and personal development. In 2013, he was co-founder and the Head of School at The Drama School in Mumbai, an institution for theatre education in India, with a focus on developing the next generation of theatre makers. In 2021, he was the co-founder of Ekalavya Art, a digital theatre education. He worked as a director of strategy and vision at the Drama School Foundation.
He was a theatre and education entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience in the theatre industry. He worked to shape the theatre education landscape in India. At Drama School Mumbai, he led the design and implementation of our one-year Post Graduate course in Acting and Theatre Making. He collaborated with a community of more than 35 theatre professionals to deliver a curriculum that’s both innovative rigorous, mentoring more than 90 graduates and building partnerships across theatre institutions to central his work. He taught as a guest faculty at several institutions, including Ninasam Theatre Institute, Attakallari Centre for Movement Arts, St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, Shinshu University in Japan, and the National School of Drama’s Theatre in Education division. He has worked across India, the US, UK, and Japan, with productions, including Shakespeare's Othello in Kannada and Eklavya in Japanese.
