Daryao Singh Malik

Dariyav Singh Malik, known for his quick wit and humor skills, was born in 1938 in Ugrakheri Village, Panipat district, Haryana. He has been a comedian in the Haryana Folk Theatre. Malik completed his 10^th class from Jain High School. He has three sons and two daughters. He worked as a drama Inspector in the Public Relations Department. An opportunity to act as a comedian in his debut film ‘Chandrawal’(1984), the first Haryanvi hit movie given by his Department officer. He has performed in Haryana and other parts of the country from 1960 to 1990.

He also acted as a comedian in 18 more films like Lado Basanti, Kadwa Sach, and Ke Supane Ka Zikar. He was also interested in social upliftment and thus has promoted literacy and improvement of rural society through his stage shows by participating in various campaigns conducted by Government and non-government organizations. He has also supported generating funds for building hospitals and schools through his performance. He started his career In theatrical programs run by All India Radio from Rohtak and Delhi for many years as a singer-actor.

In 1985, Malik received the Best Comedian Award from the North India Film Association. In 2004, he was honored with the Haryana Gaurav Samman. For his contribution to the folk theatre of Haryana, he received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2005. He was also honored with the President’s Award by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in Haryana Cinema and the Arena of Art. He knew languages like Hindi, Punjabi, and English with Haryanvi. Dariyav Singh Malik, the everlasting comedic actor, passed away in 2022.
