Born on 30th September 1933, Ajitesh Bandopadhyay was an actor, playwright, activist, and director. He was born in the Purulia district of West Bengal to Bhubhanmohan Bandopadhyay and Lakshmi Rani Devi. Ajitesh graduated from Maharaja Mahindra Chandra College, Kolkata. After graduating he worked as a teacher in the same college and at South Point School. In 1960 he joined a theatre group called Nandikar. He worked as an actor and director at Nadikar theatre group. Ajitesh Bandopadhyay received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1976, it was awarded to him for his contribution in theatre community. Ajitesh Bandopadhyay also won several awards for his plays. In 1977, he left the Nandikar theatre group and started his own theatre group Nandimukh and continued his work in the field of theatre.
