Urmimala Mahanta is an Indian actress born in Sonapur, Assam. She went to Dimoria College in Khetri, Kamrup. She then studied at the Film and Television Institute of Pune, Maharashtra. She debuted as an actress in the Tamil crime thriller movie 'Vazhakku Enn' in 2012. She is well-known for her acting in films like 'Kothanodi (2016),' 'Akira (2016),' 'Padman (2018),' and 'Guwahatidiaries (2022).' Urmimala won the Special Critic Award at the Mumbai International Film Festival in 2012 for the short film Aaliyah. Urmimala debuted in Bollywood with the movie 'Pareshaanpur' directed by Dilip K. Mukharia. Her debut was shifted to 'Manjhi- The Mountain Man' after Pareshaanpur got delayed. Urmimala began working in Bengali films with the remake of the movie Vazhakku Enn in 2014. She won the Best Actress award at the Patna International Film Festival for the movie Bokul in 2016. Urmimala triumphed in the Prag Cine Awards North-East as the best actress for the movie Antareen.
