Badruddin Ajmal is also known as Maulana Badruddin Ajmal Qasmi. He is an Indian politician, businessman, philanthropist, industrialist, and Islamic theologian. Badruddin is the state- president of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind. He was born on February 12, 1950, in Gopal Nagar, Hojai district in Assam. He completed his Master’s in Islamic Theology and Arabic (Fazil-e-Deoband) at Darul Uloom Deoband, Uttar Pradesh. He belongs to a Bengali Muslim family. His father, Haji Ajmal Ali, was a rice farmer. His mother’s name is Mariamunessa. He has four brothers, namely Amiruddin, Sirajuddin, Nazirul Haq, and Fakhruddin Ajmal. He married Rehana Badruddin Ajmal on December 30, 1979. He has a daughter and six sons. His two sons, Abdur Rehman Ajmal and Abdur Rahim Ajmal, are politicians.

Badruddin Ajmal established his political party named Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) in 2005 and later renamed to All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) in 2009. He has been the managing trustee of Haji Abdul Majid Memorial (HAMM) Public Trust, Hojai. The trust is known for the charitable hospital Haji Abdul Majid Memorial Hospital and Research Center at Hojai in Assam. Also, he established a hospital, Badarpur Hospital in Malua. He founded a non-government organization, Ajmal Foundation, based in Assam in 2005. He was the chairperson of Markazul Ma’arif Education and Research Centre (MMERC), Mumbai, in 1982. This educational organization encourages research works in socio-religious & economic domains and also serves the needs of the madrasa graduates by teaching them the English language.

Badruddin Ajmal was elected as the Member of the Assam Legislative assembly from two constituencies – South Salmara and Jamunamukh. He was elected as the Member of the fifteenth parliament from Assam’s Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency in 2009. In the same year, he was appointed as a Parliamentary Forum on Global Warming and Climate Change member. After defeating Wazed Ali Choudhury of the Indian National Congress (INC), he was again elected to the sixteenth Lok Sabha from Dhubri constituency in 2014. His party won three Lok Sabha seats. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he again won the seat from Dhubri by a margin of 40000 votes. He has been regularly included in The Royal Islamic Strategies Studies Centre (RISSC) list name of “The 500 Most Influential Muslims” globally for his contributions in Charity, Philanthropy, and Development areas.
