Joi Barua is a well-known Indian Assame Singer and Music Composer. He performs playback singing for Assame, Hindi, and Telugu films. He was born in Digboi, Assam. At a very young age, he had a passion for singing. He has participated in school competitions and got support from his father and sister, Mabillia. He did his schooling at St. Anthony College, Shillong. He has completed his graduation from Gauhati Commerce College. Joi began his music career by singing jingles in various famous company advertisements like Fiat Linea, Vodafone, Reliance, LG, Hero Honda, Nescafe, Club Mahindra, and Yatra.com. He worked as a playback singer in Bollywood movies such as Dev.D. Udaan, Luv Ka The End, Mujse Fraaandship Karoge and, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

In 2010, his band launched Joi: Looking out of the Window, an album with a blend of blend of rock, soul, folk, and worldbeat. Joi has shown his singing talent in Tamil and Telugu films. In 2014, with Shruti Hassan, he performed at the INKtalks live event and composed an Assam-Tamil fusion song named Prithvi Gure. Joi also contributed to Assam films by singing the Assamese song Khiriki for Hengool Theatre, and in 2013, Joi’s band released the Assamese single Pitol Soku from the documentary Riders of the Mist.

He has also collaborated with international artists and completed various projects. In 2022, he released the anthem for the Indian Army who lost their lives in the Indo-China War. He has received various awards for his contribution to the Music Industry. Joi has received the Best Debut Award for the album Joi: Looking out of the Window by 92.7FM, Guwahati. In the Cannes Film Festival, he got an award for the best soundtrack for the movie Fantasy of Championship between Human and Inanimate.
