Nuruddin Ahmed is an exemplary Art director, Costume, and Craft Designer whose numerous contributions to art and culture are incomparable. Born in Sathikuchi, Nalbari, he completed his studies at J.J College of Arts, Mumbai and Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi. In 1979, he moved to Guwahati from Nalbari. For period of over three decades, he was a part of Assamese mobile theatres and films. He worked with eminent filmmakers and made stage sets for around 40 plays, including Macbeth, Titanic, Anarkali, Othello and Hamlet. He also worked as an art director for about 110 Doordarshan telefilms and tv serials in Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Khasi, etc., till 2016.

After leaving the film industry, he continued his artistic journey and has kept traditional art and culture alive in the hearts of the people of his community. Some of his noteworthy works include the Bhupen Hazarika Memorial, the statue of Lakshminath Bezbaroa (Guwahati), the structure of Sukapha and Chilarai (North Lakhimpur), etc. He also rendered his artistic vision to the Assam Tableaus (2001-2005) for the Republic Day Parade. He was also the art head of the Assam team at the India International Trade Fair (2011). In 1975, he created his first Durga Puja Pandal in Assam, and since then, he has been dedicated to this line of work.

In 2017, Ahmed, with his team of 40 assisting artists, built a 98 feet tall bamboo Durga Idol at Bishnupur Sarbajanin Puja Committee Pandal. Even though the idol faced damages by the storm, he and his team managed to rebuild it within time. The idol was recorded as the tallest Durga Idol in the Limca Book of Records. He also founded “Rajdeep Art Studio”, through which many aspiring artists gain exposure to showcase their talents and receive training. He is the recipient of many awards and honors, including the Sangeet Natak Academi Award.
