Plot

At the beginning of episode one, we see Raghu Khanna, the only heir of Victory Studios. Victory Studio is named after Khanna’s father, Victor Khanna. Raghu Khanna is a famous producer, and all the actors and directors want to work with him. In the next scene, we see Mahika Nandy, who is a news reporter and works to give ratings to films on a channel. Mahika gets a call from her office to review a new film, Pyaar Dangerous. Jiko offers Mahi an iPhone; in return, he anticipates that Mahi is going to see the movie, as it is produced by Raghu Khanna, so she must leave a good review on it. Now the scene changes, and we see Yasmin Ali, an actress doing minor roles and item songs in the industry. Her dream is to play a lead role in the movies someday, and the next moment we got to know that she is Raghu’s girlfriend. Then we see Mahika on her TV channel giving good reviews of the Pyaar Dangerous movie, and then suddenly something strikes her mind, and she gives an actual review of the film. She does so because she loves movies, and she could not lie about it by taking bribes. The review went viral on social media, and she received a lot of appreciation, but in return she lost her job. One day, news flourished all over the media that Victor Khanna is no more as he was suffering from prostate cancer, so he decided to give up. The next day, Victor Khanna’s will reveal that the managing control of Victory Studio is in the hands of his first wife’s granddaughter, Mahika Nandi. The rest of the movie revolves around Raghu’s clash with Mahika to take hold of the position.

Star Performance

The lead actor and actress are average with their performance but Emraan Hashmi stole all the lime light single handedly. The dialogues lack excitement and the background score of the series also seems weak. Overall, the storyline, direction, and casting all could have been better.

Analysis

The series Showtime is meant to expose Bollywood’s conspiring moves and groups in the Bollywood industry. But the movie fails to deliver the experience totally, it seemed as if the filmmakers were trying not to reveal too much. The first two episodes are packed with power packed performances and storylines, but later the film became slow and boring, which demeans the viewing experience. The story is capable of an excellent drama movie, but as a series it seemed stretched and tedious. Overall, the television series is an average watch. However, better casting, direction, and plot could have made the show worthwhile to watch.

The series is a must-watch for those who are always into a filmy world. The story is indeed fascinating but failed to deliver.
