Hasmukh (Vir Das) is a trainee comedian working under a famous comedian, Gulati (Manoj Pahwa). An alcoholic Gulati had promised to give his trainee a big break on stage but always refused to do so. It leads to a fight between the duo before a performance, resulting in the murder of Gulati. Although frightened, Hasmukh finds himself more confident and successfully performs in place of Gulati. Jimmy (Ranvir Shorey), the manager of Gulati, becomes suspicious of Hasmukh and finds the dead body of the famous comedian in their town. However, impressed by the fabulous performance of Hasmukh, he becomes his manager. He also helps Hasmukh in getting rid of the evidence of murder and faking the death of Gulati.

Now, Hasmukh has started his career as a standup comedian in various shows and fails miserably in performing well. On the other hand, he also faces the abuse of his uncle and aunt at home. Since desperate times call for desperate measures, Jimmy figures out that Hasmukh performs well only after killing and calls it his ‘Viagra’ or medicine. So, he buys a goat, hoping Hasmukh to kill it before an important performance. Meanwhile, the uncle of Hasmukh comes to mock him in his room, and Hasmukh snaps and kills him. After that, he gives a mindblowing performance on stage. Jimmy makes it look like that the uncle ran away and burned his body in a furnace. Hasmukh decides not to kill an innocent person and starts killing bad people. One of his performances goes viral on the internet and catches the attention of a channel, Alankar, in Mumbai.

The channel owner, Mr. Sinha (Ravi Kishan), asks his employees to find new talent for his standup comedy show Baadshaho. Hence, one of the producers of the show Promila (Amrita Bagchi) sends Rhea to invite the popular Hasmukh as a wild card entry to the show. Jimmy and Hasmukh reach Mumbai. They hope to make a good fortune and promising career via Baadshaho. They accidentally negotiate to Rs. 15 lakhs per episode payment instead of the expected Rs. 25000. Mr. Sinha throws a party in honor of Hasmukh, where he meets a spoilt rich brat who had killed people sleeping on the footpath while driving in a drunken state. Jimmy and Hasmukh choose the rich guy as their next target. They also mock off a lawyer named Shastri, who calls them to an empty building just before their first show. There, he threatens Hasmukh at gunpoint to make him his manager. However, Hasmukh kills him and arrives on time for the show.

Distracted, Hasmukh won the round against KK by just one point, but Mr. Sinha was unhappy with his performance. Mr. Sinha was a womanizer who had an affair with multiple women. Hence, Promila blackmails him into giving Hasmukh a second chance. Meanwhile, the police officers investigating the murder case of Shastri got on his tail. They are clear that there is a serial killer killing people with a belt.

Later, the supporter of KK, Ajinkya, found something against Mr. Sinha on Rhea’s laptop. There was a video of Mr. Sinha romancing with a woman. However, Rhea catches him red-handed, snooping inside her laptop, and confronts him. A fight ensues, and Ajinkya ends up killing Rhea in the process. He then staged his crime in the pattern of the ‘belt killer.’ It gives Hasmukh his next target, and he kills Ajinkya before his final performance.

However, Mr. Sinha announce KK as the winner because KK blackmailed him with the video that Ajinkya retrieved from Rhea. The series ends with the police officers realizing the fact that the same pattern of murders also happened in the village of Hasmukh. This dark tale of a comedian has an open ending, making the viewers anticipate season 2. Its story showcases a novel idea of a story in which the serial killer is also a standup comedian who kills to perform well.
