What's the good word is an educational game show on DD national. The show is in the Hindi language. It was a long-running show that started in 1972 and lasted till 1986. Sabira Merchant was the host of the show. She is an etiquette trainer and actor with a firm grip on English vocabulary. The purpose of the show was to improve the English vocabulary and General knowledge of the viewers. At that time, English was believed to be the future language and learning it was the purpose of Indians. Sabira’s passion for the English language made the show one of the longest-running shows on Doordarshan.
The contestants were divided into three teams. They were not celebrities but some common person chosen as contestants. Each team had two players. All of them had to guess a word based on some clues. The first to ring the bell would answer. The teams were awarded points and whoever took the least clues would get the maximum scores. The show's format was similar to a famous game named “

”. The winners were awarded with book coupons. They were called back for the next episode to compete with the new teams. Some people won many times and returned to the show 8-9 times.
The show also had some live performances to give clues regarding the word. Sometimes a Bharatnatyam dancer was called or sometimes a chef to make the contestants guess the word.
