A Tryst with the people of India is a documentary that was aired in Doordarshan in 1998. The director of this documentary is Saeed Mirza, where he and his crew members traveled the length and breadth of India to film this documentary on how the people of India changed after 50 years of Indian Independence. They interviewed various people about their opinions and recorded it. People share their views from their perspective of, how all the people have been treated equally irrespective of their caste, and there was also been great progress in education and the establishment of numerous schools in villages. This documentary has a total of 16 episodes. In each episode, they would discuss different topics based on independence. In one episode, they interrogate people how freedom and Independence meant for them.
People also expressed that they had the freedom to learn about various things, and they also have the right to speak or act without any hesitation. Independence also means to them as they don’t have to be dependent on anyone, and from this, they also gained self-esteem to become a stronger person and could also achieve their dreams.
The residual episodes portray, how people experience modern India’s “tryst with destiny.” Each people share their views from their perspective. People express, how in some parts of India, people still experience poverty, and it was not fully abolished. Inequality has not become a constraint for people now and it was also accepted by, majority of people. This documentary was found beneficial for most people as they could know about different people's perspectives about independence and freedom.
