This comic originally belongs to a Japan Broadcasting which got dubbed in Hindi. This show was telecasted in cartoon network, which is a kid entertaining channel. It is directed by Yasumi Yoshizawa. After him, it was taken over by a Tokyo movie. It was a success in Japanese TV cartoons. For the style in the characters, animation directors – Osamu Kobayashi, Tsutomu Shibayama played a significant role in the comic. The Supervising director Eiji Okabe worked for first 8 episodes. After him, Tadao Nagahama took over as chief director. The story has a main character named “Hiroshi”.
The entire comic revolves around him. He belongs to a poor community. He is a middle school boy who trips and falls to the ground accidentally, landing on a frog that happened to be in the way. Because of which, the frog got stuck to his shirt. Fortunately, the frog survived, and it can even talk. The frog name in the comic is “Pyonkichi”. The frog and the boy became good friends after that. From this point, the actual story begins. All the characters in the comic lived in poverty. The boy in the story too belongs to a lower class. He always wears the same shirt, as he is poor. He can’t afford for the other shirt, so he’s stuck with the frog Pyonkichi. All his friends belong to a lower class, except his girlfriend named “Kyoko”. She belongs to a mid to upper-class character.
The hero in the story always gets into a fight with his neighbourhood bully named “Gorilla IMO”, who never gets away from violence. The neighbour fights with Hiroshi to grab the attention of Kyoko. The other main characters include Umasaburo Sagawa, who Hiroshi’s friend is grown up in an orphanage. He loves a character named Yoshiko, who is an English teacher in the school. The teacher Yoshiko is not only loved by Sagawa, but also by “Yoshio Minami”, who too is a teacher in that school. Hiroshi has a childhood sweetheart named “Kuniko Obayashi”, who flirts hero and other boys in the school.
The frog Pyonkichi has a girlfriend too named “Pinko”. But the frog breaks up with his girlfriend, as he feels like he can’t give her the life she deserves. Hence, this series was enjoyed by kids of all ages. But the series framed was targeted mainly at teenagers. Still, it was a big success. It featured the highlights and lowlights growing up in Japan. It entertained a large group and remained as a success in the minds of the audience.
