In this season, one new thing was started i.e. at the start of every episode a cast member narrated how the series is actually recorded in front of a live studio audience. Mike offers that Boyd can stay with them to qualify for better school when Kristin and Ryan decide to admit him to a Spanish bilingual school but the hidden motive is that he misses Boyd, and Mandy’s college philosophy course affects Kyle’s attitude towards life. Mike makes Vanessa to give driving lessons to Eve as they don’t spend more time together, and Mandy doesn’t like that Mike makes Kyle do several chores whenever he comes to spend time with her. Mandy joins sorority at college encouraged by Vanessa but she gets less time with Kyle so Vanessa advises her to move on from him to get more college experience.

Ed becomes undercover to investigate reason behind less performance, and some problem at Ryan’s work causes Kristin to be furious at him so he accepts a night job at Outdoor Man. Vanessa’s design for Halloween Party at Boyd’s school scares him but Mike tells her to not change it so that he learns to face his fears. Mandy and Eve insult each other which hurt both of their feelings. Carol Larabee is first supported by Vanessa and not by Mike but later the support gets exchanged because of Carol’s ideas. Kyle is left feeling jealous when Ed takes Ryan for lunch. Kristin and Mandy give Eve dating advice and Eve says that she liked Kristin’s idea which is same as Mandy’s idea, but later she goes to Mandy for advice to win a boy back. Mandy acts to be single to gain bigger tips and tells Kyle to not show her affection when he visits. Vanessa tries making amends with Kyle after saying Mandy to break-up with him but he turns out to be a horrible salesman, and Eve has to babysit Boyd.

Bud comes for Thanksgiving and reveals that Jim, his other son, threw him out of his own business, and asks Mike’s help as he decides to open a marijuana store. Kyle does not want to wear a hat that Mandy gives him but later Ed and Mike convince him to. Conflict occurs about how Boyd should be celebrating his Christmas, and Mandy’s attitude that he just wants money for Christmas changes after meeting Blanca’s niece and leaves everyone surprised as she brings the girl’s father home with the money. Eve is hated by her liberal classmates after sharing Mike’s conservative thoughts on her social media page. Boyd is given medicine for ADHD after many incidents of misbehaviour but Vanessa, Mike and Ryan convince Kristin to not give it to Boyd as he is too young and try alternate methods. Mandy takes Boyd’s medicine and passes her final exams which make Vanessa and Mike to believe that she really has ADHD.

Boyd’s school’s name is in danger due to Boyd’s report but Mike and Vanessa want it to remain same, and to Vanessa’s surprise, Carol supports the same name. Mandy is helped by Blanca for her first dress for an assignment of fashion design class. Mike doesn’t believe in Valentine’s Day but still sends a large bouquet for Vanessa secretly but Kristin thinks that John sent it to her which creates awkwardness at her work. Three boys compete to become Eve’s boyfriend in which she falls for Justin, and Kyle carves a soap bar into Mandy’s favourite bird as a gift. Eve leaves a note for car owner which Mandy dents when Mandy denies to leave one, but later she learns that Mandy got an iPad from the owner who was impressed by her honesty. Eve tells Vanessa about Justin taking a purity pledge which Vanessa tells to Mike, and later Kristin tells their parents that Eve will be with Justin at Junior ROTC camp so they refuse Eve to go.

Eve sneaks out to go to camp and later the reason about the same turns out that even she doesn’t want Justin there as he will drag her team down and he was a replacement done at the last-minute. Mike and Vanessa are against Mandy’s idea to drop out of college but when Mike sees that she is smartly running her business, he changes his opinion. Mandy later decides to take marketing and business classes. Eve wants to get out of a tough class as she wants acceptance into West Point Academy but Mike feels that she should face difficult situations. Ed is convinced by Wendi to give a job to her son and later starts dating Wendi. Mike helps Bud after Bud gets mugged but later feels left out between Bud, Ed, and Chuck. April returns and asks for $6,000 to buy donor egg as she wants to have a child but is not fertile, but Vanessa declines so Mandy offers to donate her egg. Mike’s idea that Boyd should take part in one competition to build confidence is supported by Ryan but later Ryan has difficulty to convince Kristin. Eve and Justin fight over her dress for prom and she ends up going with Andrew to the prom. It is later revealed that Ryan and Kristin are engaged.
