Xopunar Asutia Rang is a Assamese television series that aired on the renowned Assamese channel Rang TV.  The episodes are available at Rang TV’s popular youtube channel. The drama series revolves around the life of a young, and vibrant girl Kiranbala. The show explores the central themes of love, abuse, crimes, and what not! The show’s storyline is centered around the life of Kiranbala and features the story of her downfall to her freedom. Kiranbala belongs to a middle-class literature family and has a highly charismatic personality.

In the story, she comes to Guwahati to be married to a man. She gets married in the city and expects a happily married life. Little did she know that she’s fallen into the trap of a failed marriage filled with mental and physical abuse. After being physically, sexually, and mentally abused at the hands of her husband for over ten years, she now feels depressed and anxious all the time. All alone in the world, she has no one to turn to for help and support. Her dreams and ambitions have all gone into the trash. 

Is revolting against abuse a wise thing to do? Is murdering the perpetrator ever beneficial for the victim? Sick of this miserable marriage, Kiranbala takes a bold step for herself by planning her husband’s murder. Things take a dark twist when she commits the murder, which was only to protect her children and herself from the igniting rage of her husband. After the crime, she gets sentenced to life imprisonment for her husband’s murder. Because of her middle-class, Kiranbala cannot even higher a decent lawyer. She’s made a mistake, but she genuinely had no option but to either kill her husband, or get killed herself. 

After all this, she’s judged by society and known as the woman who killed her husband. Hopeless, and depressed Kiranbala gives up on life. Soon, an NGO named ‘Seven Sisters Welfare Organisation’ looks into the absolute truth of Kiranbala’s story. They pity her and want the people to know about her horrible marriage and hopelessness. So in Kiranbala’s honor, they publish a book depicting her life story and how the murder was just an act of self-defense to protect her family. The story from her onwards becomes more inspirational when Kiranbala becomes popular among the masses and becomes a celebrity. She soon finds a very well experienced lawyer who works in the high court, who helps to free her from the prison and prove her not- guilty. The journey of Kiranbala’s suffering to her ultimate freedom makes show’s plot all the more entertaining and empowering.
