Alavudeente Albhuthavilakku roughly translates to Aladdin's lamp. All of us are well-versed with the Arabian tale of a man named Aladdin and his lamp. Alavudeente Albhuthavilakku is a Malayalam serial that re-tells the classic tale. The plot of the show takes us to a fictional land named Agrabah. There a vendor opens a shop and begins to tell the audience the story of an oil lamp in exchange for money. Grand Vizier of the Agrabah, named Jafar wants to possess this làmpara which is currently at the Cave of Wonders. However, someone tells him that he cannot do so and would need the help of a brave man.

Jafar spots a boy named Aladdin and considers him to be fit to bring him the lamp. Aladdin has a pet monkey named Abu. Both stumbles upon a beautiful princess Jasmine. Jasmine is on run as her father was forcing her to marry a guy, he finds suitable for her. Aladdin befriends Jasmine, and within days both fall in love. Jafar gets the whiff of their rising love and so he arrests Aladdin and Abu. He also makes Jasmine believe that Aladdin was beheaded. Later, Jafar dons the look of an old man and helps Aladdin and Abu escape the prison. Jafar requests Aladdin to go into the cave and help him retrieve the lamp.

He promises to reward Aladdin if he succeeds. Aladdin agrees and goes inside and finds the thing he was told to retrieve. He also finds a carpet which is magical. However, Abu attempts to steal a jewel, and hence the cave falls. Both gets trapped inside. Helpless, Aladdin rubs the lamp, and to his surprise a Genie comes out of it. He tells Aladdin that he considers him his master and therefore is willing to grant him three wishes. Aladdin, very smartly, fools the Genie to help them escape without wasting any of the three wishes. He then asks Genie to make him a prince so that he can impress Jasmine and marry her.

Genie grants him his wish. When Aladdin goes to propose Jasmine, she fails to recognize him and rejects him. His friends advise him to reveal his true identity to her. But he refuses to do that. Later, he takes Jasmine on a tour on the carpet he found inside the cave, where Jasmine becomes suspicious and recognizes Aladdin. However, he tries to snub her suspicions away. The show, thereon, traces his adventures of how he convinces Jasmine to marry her, defeats Jafar and emerge victoriously. The serial was telecasted on Channel Asianet from Monday to Friday at nine-thirty in the night. The first episode was viable to the public on October 4, 2010.
