King Vikramaditya (Arun Govil) was a benevolent, brave, fearless, and adventurous king. He diligently rules over his prosperous kingdom from his capital Ujjain. He often takes the gifts given by the visitors politely. Likewise, a mendicant often came to his court and gave him a fruit. The king always asks his royal storekeeper to keep it in the store. One day, the fruit was mishandled and broke. A fine ball of ruby came out of it. The king ordered to check the other fruits, which also contained rubies. The king wanted to meet the mendicant. However, he kept a condition for the king to meet him at night under a Banyan tree in the middle of the cremation ground on the 14th day of the dark half of the month. When the king met him and asked him about the ruby, he said that there was an important task that only a king like him could perform. He then further explains that Vikramaditya had to go to the Northernmost corner of the ground to find an old tree. A corpse will be hanging from its branches, and the king has to bring it to him.

However, the king has to bring the corpse from the treetop and carry it on his shoulder back to the mendicant in silence. Whenever the king tries to complete the task, the spirit of Betaal (Sajjan) narrates a new story to the king. In the end, he would ask one question, and if the king remained silent even after knowing the answer, his head would split into a thousand pieces. Hence, the king has to break his vow of silence, and Betaal flies back to the tree. But the king relentlessly keeps bringing with him. It goes on for 25 stories. Impressed with the king’s determination, Betaal finally revealed the reality of the mendicant. He plans to practice certain rites while sitting on Betaal. He would also kill the king to become more powerful. Suspicious about the mendicant, the king still takes Betaal to him, ready for anything. The words of Betaal are proven true, and the mendicant attacks the king. However, the king killed him instead.

The series garnered much popularity. Later, many channels also retelecasted it.
