The competition in the show is among the people belonging to the age group of 15 to 35. The winners are determined on singing expertise and entertainment skills. Also, text messages from the audience (voting) count for the contestants to get selected for the next round. The panel of judges comprises of prominent singers in the Malayalam music industry who are expected to help each contestant improve by providing valuable judgement.

After each performance on the stage, there is an elimination round. Candidates are eliminated on the basis of the judges’ score and the votes they get from the audience through SMS. Every episode begins with the presentation of participants who are in danger zone. The candidates fall in the danger zone under two conditions: The first reason is they lack scores from the judges and the second reason is the lack of votes from the viewers. In the Grand Finale, only 5% accounts to votes from the audience. Rest 95% of the weight is given to the judge's marks for the declaration of the winner.
