Plot

Chiranjeevi is a simple clerk at the irrigation department, who works hard to make his ends meet. He takes care of his mother, his siblings as well as his childhood love Vijayashanthi. However, a financial fraud ruins his family. Will Chiranjeevi accept things the way they are, or will he get up and fight against the system?

Star Performances

The only two departments where this film has excelled are the acting and the production values.

Despite having limited resources, the people who were in charge of the production design have done a good job. Also, the lead actors tried their best to make up for the mess created by the screenplay.

Analysis

You must be either naïve or living under the rock for years if you don’t have a clue about MLM scams. These schemes always target those who are either poor or in desperate need of money. By the time one understands their game plan, they have either vanished into thin air or have escaped to another destination.

‘Sharathulu Varthisthai’ is a social drama that is based on one such fraud, and how a man fights against all odds to get justice. Not bad as an idea, is it?

Well, that’s what the makers would have thought. However, they forgot a basic thing: create an engaging story. The narrative is so bland that the viewers would be wondering whether they signed up for the right movie in the first place.

The first half was genial and engaging. The natural emotions that were brilliantly portrayed by most of the star cast did the talking. It was only when the screenplay proceeded towards the second half that things took a turn for the worse. The editing is also not up to the mark, to the point, that the film is overstretched beyond redemption.

The only reason this film is slightly watchable is because of the earnest efforts of the lead actors. For all the flaws of the film, actors Chaitanya Rao and Bhoomi Shetty have done a decent job. The production values for this film were more than average.

Verdict

‘Sharathulu Varthisthai’ is a social drama that could have gone places. The basic concept of the film held promise, and the acting, as well as the production values, were also brilliant. If only the screenplay was as effective.
