Plot
The story revolves around a town called Thupakula Gudem. The central government plans to eradicate the Naxalites from the country. To achieve this, they bring a scheme called Surrender Parade so that all those in the army should join the stream of people's life and surrender immediately. As part of that, the central government suggests that 100 innocent people should surrender. According to it, if the Naxalites surrender, they will be given three lakh cash and a police job. Responding to the government’s scheme to end Naxalism, a group of hundred innocent youth from Thupakula Gudem prepared to surrender as Naxalites. When this is brought to the notice of Rajanna, a prominent and influential area person, he directs Kumar to do the job. Did Kumar succeed in doing so? How did the lives of Thupakulagudem’s residents get affected due to this? The main film has the answers.
Star Performances
Though being newcomers, the cast did impressive work in this film. Praveen Kandela, with limited screentime as Rajanna, did a decent job in the movie and delivers an impactful performance. His performance in the given vital role adds realistic texture to the film. Shiva Ram portrayal of Shivanna highlights his conviction and talent. Jaiyetri Makana as Mamatha served her character’s purpose in the movie. Shrikant did a convincing job as a village guy, and he emoted pretty well. The chemistry between Srikanth and Jaiyetri doesn’t feel forced. The rest of the cast skillfully portrayed their critical roles in the film.
Analysis
“Rebels of Thupakula Gudem” is a drama film that revolves around Naxalism in the village of Thupakula Gudem. Though the director’s efforts are praise-worthy, the storyline has a scope to be narrated in a more entertainingly way by incorporating a streamlined flow of narrative. The thought of showcasing the hardships of jobless youth in the Naxalism backdrop is new and different; however, the team could have gone for a more realistic approach. However, the major strength of this crime comedy lies in its unique content and absurd humor. Some comedy portions were placed in the latter part to make up for the dull narrative, but one can still feel that nothing important is happening as far as the story is concerned. The emotions are majorly missing, which should have been highlighted. The audience hardly gets to root for a character because of the lack of emotional tension around them. Srikanth Arpula’s cinematography is decent. He has captured the forests beautifully. Music director Mani Sharma’s music assisted in enhancing the final output of the film. Director Jaideep Vishnu took the task of editing the film, but his editing feels a bit weak. Though, he did a decent job considering this his first film. Close to 15-20 minutes of the film could have been easily chopped off. The movie starts on a high not, but lost its momentum as the climax approaches close. The movie demanded more effort to justify the reality of its story. But the creative team fails to achieve the same.

“Rebels of Thupakula Gudem” is a film that tries to create situational comedy based on a not-so-common topic. It is a tiresome film that fails to engage. But it suffers from bland writing, lack of emotional depth, and a lengthy run time. Hence it ends up as a disappointing watch. To summarize, despite having issues in the narrative, one can give this film a try to commend the efforts of the team. It may not please everyone as it tries to mix different emotions, but those who want to watch some light-hearted comedy will enjoy it.
