Plot
Rocky follows his own set of rules in life and is a college student. However, as he gets older and becomes accustomed to the corporate grind, his priorities shift along with his perspective on life. Rocky's liberal outlook causes problems for both his parents and teacher. As he gets older, his liberal perception of social norms only strengthens. Soon after, he moves in with his girlfriend and enters a relationship. However, when his girlfriend is made to leave him, issues start to arise.
Star Performance
The highlight of Jiilka is lead actor Kaveesh, who does a serviceable job with the character. However, the same cannot be said about the supporting cast, who aren’t helped by an amateurish script.Â
Analysis
The story has a good message and an impactful climax despite initially appearing to be a lighthearted love story set against a college backdrop. The movie, however, would have been better off without certain scenes, such as the offensive portrayal of a member of the LGBT community and the homophobic jokes. This humorous story about the hero's queer best friend falls flat for a movie that ultimately has a progressive message.
The performances in the movie suffer as a result of the film's noticeably poor writing. Though the film's intentions are commendable, the screenplay is anything but subtle. They try to utilize the resources at their disposal as best they can. Although the film's social commentary is well-intentioned, it also doesn't help but seem a little stale. Nor is the music anything to write home about. Jiilka is an excellent movie at home because it tackles a significant social issue and people's mindset in the last scene. It also has some good visuals and entertaining scenes. Visually, the film looks generic and doesn’t seem to have any sense of style. It merely records what’s on the page without any directorial invention.Â

Verdict
Overall, not much noteworthy occurs in the film. A strong lead cast and thoughtful social commentary prevent the movie from falling flat. If the subject matter had been handled with finesse, the film might have been a memorable experience, but in the end, it's rather forgettable. Without the commentary, what's left is a repurposed version of far superior films. In conclusion, you won't miss out on much if you skip the movie.
