Famous Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep also lent his voice to the film.

Plot

Aarav, Bhushan, and Sunil are in a fix, as they have to get back a bag of drugs worth 40 crore rupees for a gangster, Daddy. They have to do this to save Aarav’s brother Aayush. Unfortunately they are not the only ones pursuing the bags, with rival gangster Leona joining the game. Do they make it?

Star Performances

It seems that Kannada cinema is making some strides in the right direction. Raghu Dixit, known chiefly for his independent creations as a rock artist, has surprised many with his sly demeanor throughout the movie.

He has been supported by Shanvi Srivastava [famous for her stint in Avane Srimannarayana Click to look into! >> Read More... ], who has turned over a new leaf with the role of Leona. The trio of Rithvik Muralidhar, Sunil Gujjar, and Naatya Ranga have ably portrayed as the trio in crisis, who have an extremely tough if not impossible target to achieve.

Analysis

For an industry that is slowly realizing its true potential, the Kannada film Baang is an earnest effort in the right direction. It might not be entirely out of the blue like the 2019 Telugu classic ‘Mathu Vadalra’ [made on an identical theme], but it is not dull either.

Making a good dark comedy is like walking a tightrope: one wrong step and the world comes crashing down. Thankfully, ‘Baang’ is not the other way round. For a newbie director, this movie is definitely an effort in the right direction. The unconventional narrative structure also makes the audience genuinely interested in the same. Long story short, ‘Baang’ manages to keep you hooked.

One of the notable aspects of the movie is its watertight screen time. The barely 2 hours plus runtime sets the stage for a crisp, adrenaline-pumping action flick, infused with a healthy dose of dark comedy. For a film with newbies like Raghu Dixit and Rithvik Muralidhar, 'Baang' does pack a healthy punch. Even Shanvi Srivastava makes it count in a role not very common in the Sandalwood, that of a female gangster.

However, the comic caper is not without its fair share of flaws. The editing looks a bit choppy, especially during the second half. For a moment, it looked as if the movie could’ve taken a different course altogether, but for an engaging climax.

What’s There?

• Slick Runtime, Engaging Visuals

• Impressive BGMs, earnest efforts from the lead actors

• Both Engaging and Entertaining

• Surprise Efforts from actors Shanvi Srivastava and Shraya Rao

What’s Not There?

• Repetitive Sequences that interrupt a smooth flow of Narrative

• Sloppy Execution that could’ve almost destroyed the 2nd half

Verdict

Except for a few hiccups, 'Baang' is an entertaining roller coaster that is worth a watch. It is flawed, yet engaging in its own sweet way. Don't miss it!
