Plot
The movie sheds light on the rising need for rectifying the societal evils while mainly focusing on rape and rape victims. It highlights the need for a better redressal mechanism for the victims. A group of young individuals became rouge and kidnapped some of the high-profile rape-accused people, which caused havoc in society and initiated a chase for justice. What will happen next? Will justice be served? The story tries to resolve these questions thrillingly.Â
Star Performances
Most of the actors did overacting in this film. Their reactions were loud and poor dialogue writing simultaneously contributed to the poor acting performances. The portrayal of Sohail by Vardhan Puri is average. Gaurav Sareen did try well but couldn’t generate any emotion out of his performance. Adil Khan’s portrayal of Krishnakant Yadav in the film felt a bit sluggish. He couldn’t justify the urgency of the mission assigned to him in the movie. Khushi Hajare did what her character was supposed to be doing. Monica Chaudhary (Shrushti) gives monotonous reaction to every situation and fails to showcase her best in this movie. The side characters did a fine job in the movie compared to the main star cast. Sanjay Pandey as MP Tripathi caught the viewers’ eyes whenever he appeared on-screen. The rest of the cast did a fine job.
Analysis
‘Dashmi’ is a story of a group of friends who became rogue and decided to take the law into their hands when the legal system of the country failed to provide justice to the minor rape victims. The auspicious day of ‘Vijaydashmi, a day that marked the victory of good over evil, inspired the title of this movie, but the story did nothing more to justify this comparison genuinely. The actors in this movie failed to leave an impact on the audience through their performances. There is hardly any memorable scene in this film. The story of the movie didn’t feel engaging at all. It was nothing different from any other movie made on a similar topic. The director tried to add a thriller element to the movie’s story but failed to get the desired result. The poor representations of the public bureaucrats and police administration in the movie felt distant and different from reality. It felt as if the writers themselves weren’t sure who to blame: the Judiciary or the Police. The direction of Shantanu Tambe is ordinary. The music of the movie was passable. The cinematography and editing of the film felt a bit sloppy. Overall, Dashmi tries to present a bold idea but with poor execution and dull storytelling.Â

Verdict
‘Dashmi’ put forth a pressing issue that needed public’s attention in front of the audience through this film. However, the execution of this idea wasn’t up to the mark. It asks the viewers to retrospect their morals and to follow them. The film fails from a cinematic perspective but it does highlights the need for action against the prevailing social injustice faced by the victims of societal evils, such as rape, human trafficking, etc.
