Plot
The film is shot in a fictional town in Connecticut. Felix Funicello is a ten year old kid, who studies in 5th standard at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parochial School, Connecticut. Just like other children, he has to live upto his family's expectations. However, he encounters a new girl, Zhenya Kabakova. She came from Russia. Her arrival brings several changes in Felix's life and class dynamics. Their new substitute French teacher, Madame Frechette, gives them a Christmas project which Felix struggles to complete.
Star performance
Wyatt Ralff played Felix's character. His character is of a ten year old school boy. The movie revolves around his character only. Ralff's acting skills nicely capture the innocence and curiosity needed in Felix's character. Molly Ringwald played Madame Frechette's role. Her character adds excitement and challenge to the script. Her acting skills were on the point. Other minor characters like Annabella as Ma funicello, Cheri as Sister Dymphna supported the significant characters using their superb acting skills.
Analysis
Wishin' and Hopin', a nostalgic film that explores the themes of hope, friendship, love, holiday season, and teacher-student bond. It took inspiration from the 2009 novel, Wishing and hoping by Wally Lamb an USA writer. It is a cute, funny little family movie. However, there were some problematic parts on the part of the actors. For instance, Conchatta Ferrell's character should be a strict and rude nun but her acting was not what was expected from the character. Although, it adds individualistic elements to characters. Some characters like Felix undergo development as he transcends from a young little boy to a mature and intellectual boy.
 It has many comic scenes that added depth to the film. It can be a coming-of-age humour story. Wishin' and Hopin' is a Christmas classic, which is also an excellent family entertainment. The story line is unique and heartwarming. It has a beautiful ending where all children come together to execute the Christmas play that they were assigned to them. It had a lively pace which maintained entertainment throughout the film. The cinematography is impressive, it accurately presents the lives of school children struggling between the expectations of family and society

It is a Christmas classic and hence, a must watch. Throughout the film it doesn't have even a single boring scene. It keeps its viewers entertaining throughout the plot.
