has been garnering lot of positive appeal. Now let’s see whether this simple titled movie gives the horror, just as the genre showcases it to be.
Plot
The pivotal character of the film is Gong-Woo, who is have a troubled married life as well as problems with his job as a hedge fund manager. And as the movie proceeds, the 9-year old girl child of Gong-Woo, Kim Su-an, who feels ignored, asks her father to take her to Busan to see her mother. And Gong-Woo couldn’t reply in the negative.
When the father and daughter travels in a train a lady passenger who succumbs to a bite wound collapses and eventually transforms into a zombie. The scariest part is that if she bites another individual he/she would also transform into a zombie and this would continue. Panic grips over the passengers for whom it dawns that this same zombie thing will be prevalent in the whole country, thereby putting a question to their survival.
Star Performances
Goong Woo, who plays the lead character, did his job with utter conviction. From the indifferent person to the one who empathizes with others, his transformation is commendable. He does a great job both in the sentimental and action scenes. Kim Su-an, the 10 year old girl, gives the required emotional touch to the movie, as the daughter who insists on humanitarian concern to her indifferent father. Ma Dong-seok and Kim Eui-sung also do a competent job while Ahn So-hee and Young-guk give the romantic anguish to the movie.
Analysis
The film, directed by Sang-ho Yeon, brings to our attention that sometimes there is still the hope of life after facing death in the face of it. This Korean film is oozing with human element other than the zombie touch to it and this lends credibility to the movie. In this world which is full of mishaps the movie brings the best as well as the worst in human beings.
Kim Su-an reinforces the need for humanitarian concern to her father and the father-daughter bond is shown in a commendable manner in the movie. However, the movie offers something more than the setting right the relationship between the father and daughter. The movie has a philosophical approach that deals with the responsibilities that we have towards helping others. Â
