There are just nine escapees and the possibility of getting out seems remote. The nine people are aware of the ugly situation prevailing outside. There is a lean chance that is the only consolation for the refugees. 

The movie opens up with nuclear invasion in the city of New York. Inmates of an apartment try to exit the place but are forced down to the basement, which is radiation proof. Eva, and her boyfriend Sam, Josh with his brother Adrien and friend Bobby, Marilyn and her daughter Wendi, Devlin and superintendent Mickey are in the basement. Actors Lauren German, Ivan Gonzalez, Milo Ventimiglia, Ashton Holmes   Ashton Holmes is an American actor. He was born >> Read More... , Michael Eklund, Rosanna, Abbey and Courtney, have played roles of the inmates who take refuge in the dingy basement to avoid exposure to the nuclear radiation. 

Men in radiation-proof suits break open into the basement, and it is very hard to make out what they are speaking. Also, the purpose of the attack is unclear. They take Wendi as the hostage, and there is a clash between the inmates and the armed men. Two of the inmates manage to overpower and kill three of the soldiers. Mickey takes a rifle into his possession. The other man uses the dead man’s radiation proof suit to set out to save Wendi. In a twist, the door is sealed from the outside by the armed men. Now, the possibility of escape is remote. Scenes start unfolding, showing how people turn irate and fight among themselves in a cramped room. 

There is the least chance of getting out. The situation takes an ugly turn as few among the inmates fire with the guns in their possession. The climax shows Eva, the lone survivor among the nine. She takes a different route out of the building dressed in a radiation –proof suit. To her horror, she realizes that the entire New York has been razed down by the nuclear attack. 

It is the usual story of the apocalypse with the hero coming across survivors. Also, it demonstrates how a man turns animal when facing dreaded situation.
