The movie concentrates on showing the history as much as possible through revealing the actual cause of king Duleep Singh’s banishment, his past, his suffering while demanding for his rights.

Plot

Duleep as a child of age 5 tries to maintain the dignity after some deaths in his family. Duleep's mother, regent Rani Jindan got an imprisonment following the Anglo-Sikh war. In such a situation child Duleep's care was taken by Dr. John Login in England, and all was an element of the plan to take over the big subcontinent by the British. Intentionally they didn't allow him to see his mother and baptized him also. Somehow queen Victoria was slowly growing affection towards him. She is the one who gave him the name 'The Black Prince.' Duleep in his twenties used to got haunted by his sad childhood memories and decides to meet his mother. He comes to India. His mother tells him his target i.e. to unleash the freedom of his countrymen.

Analysis

The famous Punjabi singer Sartaaj is the debutant here. He carried the character naturally but not impressive. The queen Victoria role as a source of love made a magic done by Amanda Root and as a caretaker, Jason Flemyng's love was completely visible performed by Dr. John Login. The cinema is made with pure and good intention. With a slowed script and fewer action sequences, it fails to attract the audience. What’s there?

  • The movie shows some of the greatest mansions, views of the kingdoms such as Aden(Yemen), Nashik(India), Moscow(Russia).
  • Queen Victoria's hairstyles, costumes, her activities.
  • History and fantasy both are combined same time When the Koh-i-Noor appears the real glitter of the movie comes up.

What’s not there?

  • The movie was saddening at the end whereas people expected a happy ending.
  • Strong script but the makers have presented it in average type.

Verdict

Those who are fond of history, no doubt it will fascinate them, but as an entertainment lover, you won't be satisfied as it slows down and increases complexity.
