. Does he deserve it? No. To his stupidity, he refuses his long-term girlfriend Jody (Anna Margaret Hollyman) when she proposes to him on an evening date. So, Jody breaks up with Eric and leaves him midway when they meet an old college flame of Jody's, Jason (Jason Selvig). Well, this is just the beginning of his nightmare, he witnesses a man bleeding to death and chooses to joke about him and leave him. At work, Eric is disinterested and tries to pursue an uninterested colleague Penelope (Dakota Goldhor) and then tries to rekindle with Jody only to fail. He then has three failed dates with Samantha (Vanna Pilgrim), Blake (Melodie Sisk), and Denise (Juliette Fairley). On a random evening, Eric meets a stranger named Gavin (Dustin Guy Defa). After forcing Eric to confess he wants to die, and Gavin reveals he is a vampire and bites his neck. The next day, Eric wakes up completely drenched in blood and fired as he misses an important meeting. What happens next is the hilarious journey of a newly turned Vampire.
Analysis
Summer of Blood is an average flick. The movie has a fair storyline where the protagonist is in a relationship with a girl he clearly does not deserve turning into a vampire with heightened senses, insatiable sexual appetite, and desperation for blood. Eric is now completely transformed by Gavin and still tries to win back his ex-girlfriend Jody. He roams on the streets at night to find preys and picks up three women he previously dated giving them ecstatic pleasures and bites their neck as well thus turning them as vampires as well. The movie is light-hearted but misses basic satirical element. The characters are well written and executed.
Star Performances
Onur Tukel is great in this movie. With his last vampire-centric being a hit, he has geared up for this one as well. He is out and out amazing at what he does. Anna Margaret Hollyman has also given a great performance. The rest of the star cast is well suited.
What’s there?
The movie has a lot of vampires and the life they lead. It's occasional witty and sometimes funny.
What’s not there?
The movie is not packaged to perfection. It misses most of its humor and drama.
Verdict
If you like vampire-flicks, you could watch it. The movie is not completely hilarious, but it has its own moments.
