), must find a way to express her sexuality. She tries to imitate the desires of her straight-laced father (Kim Wayans). However, there is another residue of her that her oldsters do not know- Alike is homosexual, just like her openly lesbian and outstanding friend, Laura (Pernell Walker). She often hangs out at the downtown party clubs, and slowly starts accepting the person she is. She tries to let the cat out of the bag about her concupiscence, however, she's still occupied by the things that concern her needs. Her mother, Audrey, tries to push Alike away from Laura, and in an attempt to make her more feminine, she introduces her to Bina (Aasha Davis). Bina is a young church-going girl. Does her mother succeed in making her daughter less butch and more feminine? Do Alike’s parents eventually find out about her sexuality? Is she accepted? Watch the movie to find out.
REVIEW-
The film offers an unprecedented examination of inclination inside the town of an African-American group. Adepero Oduye is awesome as a 17-year-old Alike (declared Ah-lee-Kay), who has just finished high school and is currently a senior living in a neighborhood in New York. Attentively embarking on getting a handle on a lesbian demeanor, Alike lives with her cop father (Charles Parnell), ordinary mother (Kim Wayans), and a youthful sister. This movie was victorious in the department of cinematography at the Sundance celebration. Ishmael was able to delineate a particularly forbidden issue among a minority group. That film investigated the response of an American family to a homosexual youthful child. The film is directed by Dee Rees. This movie experiences some uneven pacing and stalls in overlong contentions between Alike's mother and father. Constrained to leave home to search out her place, Alike withdraws with an expanding faith in herself. "I'm not running, I’m choosing," she clarifies. A very noteworthy performance. Dee Rees handles the subject with trustworthiness, comprehension, honesty and understanding. The film's idea is uplifting and not at all preposterous, and Pariah exercises power by not tying up every serene end.
