Anna decided to go back to America, where her son Stan was born, feeling as though she had squandered her chance. Stan Russell is a brilliant college athlete and academic standout, but when single mother Anna Russell, a ceramic artist, notices that he is falling apart, she must take immediate action to prevent catastrophe. Stan vanishes out of nowhere, in denial and getting farther and farther away. To find him, Anna must embark on a journey that emphasizes the value of mental health, the tension between competitive athletics and academic brilliance, and what it takes to be a caring and devoted mom. Stan throws a meet, drops out of school, ends up on the streets, and seeks sanctuary in anonymity in his blog entry. Anna learns that he took a rifle from his grandfather.
