The year is 1944, and the 2nd World War is at its peak. A group of British soldiers infiltrate into the French territory under the command of an American captain. The mission is to capture a high ranking German officer and to steal the plans for the positions of the Nazi artillery. Based on actual events, ‘ Allies Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ is a story of bravery and sacrifice in the war-torn France.
Plot :
The movie opens with an action-packed sequence with explosions and gun fires all around, as our heroes enter the enemy territory. As the story progresses, the soldiers work according to the plan to complete the mission successfully. But it’s not going to be easy. The world’s at war, and nowhere is safe. Will our heroes succeed? Watch the film to find out.
Analysis:
‘Allies’ showcases the feeling of brotherhood that the soldiers share. Most of the things shown here have already been done to death. ‘Saving Private Ryan,’ ‘Black Hawk Down’ and ‘ Green Zone Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ to name a few. But there is something about war movies that you become a part of their journey as they fight together, joke together, laugh, cry and survive together. You feel like you’re in the war-zone, fighting alongside them. The production value is not extraordinary because of budget constraints, but the movie gets its sentiments right. The music is too loud at times, but you can’t complain in the end, as it combines the right amount of action and emotions.
Star Performances:
The leads deliver a nuanced performance. Be it the silly banter between them or the more dramatic scenes, Julian Ovenden and Chris Reilly do not disappoint. Ovenden conveys a lot through his eyes. You can see the determination, the disappointment and the sadness in their eyes as our heroes fight against the enemies. The supporting cast also delivers a mature performance. The romantic entanglement between Reilly’s character Sergeant McBain and a French girl (Emmanuelle Bouaziz) is short but pleasant to watch. Two people in love during a war, it acts as the emotional anchor of the film.
What’s there?
1. A balanced script. The writing never lurches towards over the top action or unnecessary sentimentality. 2. The heroes. You root for all of them until the movie finishes.
What’s not there?
1 The running time is a little too short for a war movie, so, the film sort of rushes through everything. The audience doesn’t get the opportunity to celebrate or grieve.
Verdict
In the end, ‘Allies’ is a promising effort by director Dominic Burns. Fuelled by a tight script and believable performances, this War Drama, certainly not the best in its genre, manages to impress.
