ANALYSIS: The writer of the movie, Soloway, did a great job in producing an excellent and funny drama, that easily strikes any young individual, who yearns for a change. A stripper and a housewife bond may look odd. But the director avoids all the platitude, and completely bring out two fascinating characters with the help of Hahn and Juno. The humor is bittersweet at times, and irony as well.
STAR PERFORMANCES: Hahn gave a wonderful performance by depicting herself as a woman who is struggling with her mid-life. This is her first major role, and she proved that she is capable of doing any in-depth roles. This movie will give a break in her career. WHAT'S THERE? Soloway gives us a thought provoking movie, with natural and powerful dialogues. She also tastes success in giving us a movie with her stylish direction. The director accurately portrays the true and the real fact of suburban life people. Jane Lynch, who comes as Hahn's friend, has a surprise towards the end of the movie.
WHAT'S NOT THERE? Since the script was more favorable towards the women, gender equality was not maintained. Men had less screen presence, and when they appear on the screen, they are portrayed in such a way that the audience will dislike them. This did not get as a big issue, since Hahn and Juno overshadowed this with their excellent performance.
VERDICT: A platform through which some basic struggles of middle aged women are delivered.
