Plot: This documentary is all about a woman called Ashleigh Ball, who gives voice over to the characters of the show by Hasbro known as ‘My little pony: Friendship is magic.’. This show attracted the audience from different age and gender. Ashleigh, just like other celebrities, received fan mail for her work.
But later she gets to know that the adults were sending her emails regularly. It was a surprise to her since this show was being done for young girls. These fans called themselves as ‘Bronies’ which is a combined word of ‘brothers’ and ‘ponies.’
She was shocked when she got invited for a ‘Bronycon’, a semi-annual fan convention that took in winter of 2012 in New York Click to look into! >> Read More... . Along with Ashleigh, two of her colleagues, Andrea Libman, and Nicole Oliver also make a brief appearance.‘My little Pony’ was a show that highlights the factors such as friendship and teamwork. It also conveys the fact that truth always triumphs and the bad suffers. Bronies support this well and are often recognized by the society as ‘weirdos’ since they are so soft and kind hearted just like the characters in the series. The positivity present in the show attracts more and more audience.
The document has mainly concentrated on male heterosexual brownies from different age groups. Few of them were a motorcycle mechanic, a former football player, an Army veteran, a producer of a radio station, business owners, etc. These bronies often gather at some familiar place, share their expression and joy for being a brony. The director, Brent Hodge, tracked each and every event attended by Ashleigh and presented it well. Small details were also considered in detail. Many footages, interview of her fans, meeting clips were being shown at particular intervals. Many of the bronies were awkward, good-natured, shy and pretty open for this show. They consider being a brony as their identity. Ashleigh did not expect that her show would generate such a response. She was overwhelmed because of the love showered on her by the bronies. A pair of psychologists who were following all the happenings expressed that so much of people are supporting this just because somewhere in their life they would have faced some bullying or hatred. Their feel against the negativities made them join and spread more positivity. Hodge has also put forth a fact that even fandom could lead to the formation of a large family.
Verdict: Overall, Brony Tale shows the huge positive power formed by the fandom and also conveys that gender bias is not necessary for being a part of any fandom. One positive attempt.!
