Plot

The story’s timeline is set in the year 2151. Where the earth’s resources were depleting and the few remaining rich people had built different domes on the planet for their safety. Inside it, they used to live because they could get a good environment there. Due to which many riots started happening on the rest of the earth. Due to this, the government began sending many ships to different planets under the space program so that they could relocate the people there. Now, we see a giant spaceship going towards a planet named Hess Peridot. It has a crew of commander Kenny Ella named Dr. Rui and Doctor Stephen. These people are in the middle of the journey, then the ship that had gone before them. They see an escape pod of that ship which was hovering in space and while hovering it comes and collides with their ship. Now they realize that something has gone very wrong with that space ship and after seeing the same. So, these people start going inside the pod. In that earlier spaceship, Kenny’s brother Franklin was also the ship’s commander, and Kenny had come here to search for his brother. Now, after coming inside the pod, they face a lot of bloodshed. They show the spots, and as they go further, they see a crew member named Eve in an unconscious state. The rest of the film reveals the secret.

Star Performance

All the cast in the film has justified their roles. Morgan Lariah’s performance was expressive, Tim’s role was average, and Manu Intiraymi has an energetic character. Though, the direction and the cinematography were average and expected to improve.

Analysis

5th Passenger is a low-slung budget film that stage and spread light on the issue of mental tension, religious and class conflict. The plot is set in the future which gives us an insight of our future situations and ways to deal with it. The movie also highlights that even after so many years, class discrimination still prevails. The film teaches us to take right moral decisions even in situation of life and death. However, the film’s pacing seems uneven and the second half seems incomplete. Also, in the second half one of the main the concept of the film, class-conflict, fades away.

What’s There?

  • Good storyline and thoughtful highlight of lessons.

What’s Not There?

  • The pace of the film is uneven.
  • The backstories provided are pretty limited.

Verdict

5th Passenger is an average film. Space movies are always exciting. But this movie may have a different perception. From the start to the end, it was going slow and constant. Altogether, the film is appropriate for a one-time watch.
