It’s re-release time!
With no major release until 1 May, Tollywood aims to cover up for any loss with multiple re-releases in April.
Nandamuri Balakrishna’s ‘Aditya 369’ and Allu Arjun’s ‘Arya 2’ are amongst the several re-releases lined up for April. ‘Arya 2’ had not only given the much needed stardom to Allu Arjun, but also established Sukumar as a prominent director in Tollywood.
Interestingly, Sukumar and Allu Arjun reunited after more than a decade for the iconic action drama Pushpa : The Rise, which turned out to be a surprise hit in 2021, despite facing the rise of Omicron wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and competition from films like Spider Man : No Way Home and the much talked about 83, which portrayed India’s victory at the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
By the end of the first quarter of 2025, nothing much has changed, except for Bollywood’s slight resurgence through the massive revenue generated by Chhaava. The Telugu industry maintained its position, though it experimented with subjects like false rape cases as with the movie Court, which turned out to be a sleeper hit. However, Tamil cinema and Malayalam cinema continue to struggle with no major blockbusters.
