Last Wednesday, a trial court framed charges against Mahmood Farooqui Mahmood Farooqui, born on 13th March 1978 (age 38) >> Read More... , the co-director of Peepli Live, who allegedly raped an American research scholar in his house in Sukhdev Vihar on March 28. But he pleaded ‘not guilty’ and purported the trial. However, he wasn’t able to get a bail from the court, and stated that they will decide on the plea of the filmmaker only after documenting the evidence from the complainant that has been summoned on September 14. The court also stated that they will do daily proceedings about the case starting on September to ensure quick trial.
Judge Sanjiv Jain requested the forensic lab director to speed up the examination of case property and present the result the soonest since the visa of the complainant will last only until October 5. This came when the investigating officer filed a report on behalf of the director of the FSL, that they are prioritizing the case and the forensics would be ready on September 30. The court requested the FSL to present the report 10-days earlier because the complainant needs to return to the US by October 5.
Farroqui’s counsel claims that the filmmaker is a law abiding citizen and adds that his family were supportive of the investigation. But the prosecution opposed his plea to get a bail stating that he committed a heinous crime. He was arrested last June 19 by the Delhi Police and has been under the judicial custody since June 20.
