Aamir Khan is back into controversy again.
In a recent podcast interview, the actor has defended his son and actor Junaid Aamir Khan over the failure of his theatrical debut Loveyapa, which was a remake of Tamil movie Love Today. The movie starred Pradeep Ranganathan in the lead role, who also directed it.
According to Aamir Khan, Loveyapa failed because of the intense debate around nepotism, and not because the movie didn’t impress the audience or was a copy of the Tamil movie by Pradeep Ranganathan. According to Aamir Khan, the movie was dragged into nepotism, and the audience failed to see beyond the negativity.
Loveyapa was a romantic comedy that starred Khushi Kapoor and Junaid in their theatrical debuts. They had previously made their OTT debuts with Maharaj and The Archies respectively. Despite a section of critics appreciating the acting of Junaid, Loveyapa was a washout at the box office. Ironically, it was the re release of Sanam Teri Kasam that did more damage to Loveyapa than the release of Chhaava next week!
Meanwhile Aamir Khan is awaiting the release of Sitaare Zameen Par, which is his first release after Laal Singh Chaddha flopped in 2022! The movie will release at the silver screens on June 20.
