Mekaal Hasan was born on 1st December 1972 in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. He is composer, guitarist, record producer, and musician. Mekaal completed his graduation from the Government College, Lahore. He went to study music at the Berklee College of Music, Boston. Mekaal's father Masood Hasan is a Jazz music passionate and his mother is a Christian. Mekaal Hasan is married to Rubya Chaudhry. She is a Pakistani actress and Fashion Model. The couple got married in 2016.

He came back to Pakistan in 1995 and with hard work and struggles he formed a band named Mekaal Hasan Band (MHB). The band was formed in 2001 by him. The band consisting genres such as Jazz, Sufi Rock, Indian/Pakistani Traditional Classical, 70' Funk and Soul, 70's Progressive Rock, etc. Mekaal has collaborated with Pete Lockett in 2001. They did a series of concerts together. Mekaal has worked with many artists and musicians such as Atif Aslam, Zeb and Haniya, Ali Azmat, Noori, Poor Rich Boy, Jal Band, Meesha Shafi, and many more.

Mekaal Hasan's studio albums include Sampooran in 2004, Saptak in 2009, Andholan in 2014, Live at Baroda in 2015, Folk and Film Music of Pakistan, and others. The albums includes many songs of various types and genres. Some of the songs are Sayon, Sanwal, Raba, Ya Ali, Albella, Ghunghat, Ranjha, Megh, Mahi, and the list goes on. In 2020, Hasan launched a series Rivayat. The series shows the rich traditional music of Pakistan.

Members of MHB are both Indians and Pakistani. Mekaal Hasan Band (MHB) has won several awards such as Lux Style Award in 2005, 2007, and 2010 for the Best Live Act, Best Music Artist, and Best Singer. Indus Music Award in 2005 and 2006 for the Best Alternative Track and the Best Composition. Musik Awards in 2006 for the Best Live Act.
