Rashid Atre is an Urdu film score composer. He was born on 15 February 1919 in Amritsar, Punjab, India. He won the Nigar award for Best Music in 1957, 1959, and 1962. Initially, he learned his lessons from Khan Sahib Ashfaq Husain, and eventually mastered a few musical instruments, and Tabla in particular. He started his career in music at Mahishori Pictures, when he composed two songs for the film Pagli. He also composed songs for the first Muslim social film Nateeja in 1947. Some of his works in India include Mamta in 1942, Pagli in 1943, Panna in 1944, Shireen Farhaad in 1945, Paaro in 1947, and Shikayat in 1948. His works in Pakistan include Beli in 1950, Roohi in 1954, Chann Mahi in 1956, Sarfarosh in 1956, Waada in 1957, Saat Lakh in 1957, Mukhra in 1958, Neend in 1959, Sham Dhalay in 1960, Salma in 1960, Mirza Jat in 1967, Bauji in 1968, and Zarqa in 1969.
