Sultan Rahi was a famous Pakistani actor, producer, and screenwriter. He positioned himself as one of Pakistani and Punjabi cinema's most prominent and successful actors. He appeared in 703 Punjabi films and 100 Urdu films throughout the period of his 40-year career, receiving nearly 160 awards. Rahi was born to an Arain family in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, in 1938, during British rule. His father, Subedar Major Abdul Majeed, was a retired British Indian Army officer. Rahi has five children, one of whom, Haider Sultan, is also an actor. Maula Jatt, Sher Khan (1981), Chan Veryam (1981), Kaley Chore, and Sakhi Badshah (1996) are some of his major movies.
His other works include Behram Daku (1980), Sala Sahib, and Ghulami, among others. Sultan Rahi has played leading roles in over 535 films. Nigar Awards were won by Rahi. His film career was tragically and unexpectedly ended when he was assassinated in January 1996.
