Hailing from a film family, Khayyam Sarhadi wanted to make acting his profession even though his father wanted him to become a doctor. After much persuasion, he got approval from his family to make a living out of acting.
Khayyam Sarhadi moved to the United States when he was fourteen and completed his school education there. He graduated with his Master’s degree in Cinematography from the UK and lived in Germany, Greece, where he started his journey as an actor with theatre plays. He also holds a Master’s degree in English Literature and Fine Arts. Upon returning to Pakistan, Khayyam Sarhadi continued to work on theatre dramas, and so far, he has done more than 200 stage shows. Later, he worked in Radio for some time before moving to become a television actor. As an actor, Khayyam Sarhadi began his career with Pakistan Television Corporation. Even without knowing neither Punjabi nor Urdu, he left the makers stunned with his mime acting, which landed him his first television drama. Since then, there has been no looking backward.

Khayyam Sarhadi debuted in movies with the 1981 film Qurbani. In the film Jinnah, he acted in the role of Abdul Rab Nishtar. His other movies are Dakoo, Bobby, Bol, and The Blood of Jinnah. Khayyam Sarhadi received the Pride of Excellence Award from the then President of Pakistan Ghulam Ishaq Khan in 1991. In honor of his creation, he won the Nigar Award and PTV National Award. While shooting for a film in Lahore on 3rd February 2011, Khayyam Sarhadi left the world due to a cardiac arrest. He was survived by his wife, Saiqa, and his four daughters.
