He was born on January 3rd 1965, in Jaito (Faridkot) in Punjab. His father’s name is Wisakha Singh and his mother’s name is Chandrawal Kaur. He pursued his graduation from Government Barijindra College in Faridkot and post-graduation from Punjabi University in Patiala. In 1992, he married Sandeep Kakkar, his classmate from Barijindra College. Singh and Kakkar are parents to two children, Palvika Singh and Shahbaz Singh. He also completed his M.Phil and PhD from Panjab University, Chandigarh. He worked as an Assistant Professor at RSD College, Ferozepur and also worked as a teacher at DM College Moga and Panjab University.
His first direction was a short satirical play, “Is Chowk to Shehar Disda Hai.” He went on to write many plays in theatre arts. In 2013, he debuted as a writer-director in the film industry with the “Stupid Seven”. Singh has penned more than 40 short and full-length plays, which include Usnun Kahi, Mitti da Bawa and Pyasa Ka. His notable writing work includes Main teri tu mera, Lavaan Phere and Lock. Bhupinder Singh is a recipient of various awards, such as ‘The Shiromani Natakkar’, ‘Kartar Singh Dhariwal Puruskar’ and ‘The Ishwar Chandra Nanda Award’.
