Pran Sabharwal is a veteran actor and a renowned theatre artist based in Punjab. He was born in the year 1930 in Jalandhar, Punjab, and developed an interest in acting when he was just nine years old. He used to visit to see Ramlila in Jalandhar with his uncle and father and immediately fell in love with the art of theatre acting. Thereafter, he started working as a junior clerk at the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited and moved to Patiala in 1962.
He got married to Sunita in 1960, who was the daughter of his father’s friend. Pran also started acting in local theatres. One day, after watching his acting in a play called ‘Paisa Bolta Hai’ directed by Sambu Mitra, the vice chancellor of Punjab University, Mr. Kripal Singh asked Pran to teach a diploma course in Dramatic Arts in 1967. Therefore, Pran left his job and joined the faculty, and his wife joined as a student to learn further acting. He got retired from his job as the director of the PSPCL public relations department in 1988.
In the film industry, Pran made his debut with a film called Sardara Kartara, which was released in 1980. The family arranges the marriage of Ranu (sister), and she moves out to live with her in-laws. In September 2022, Pran Sabharwal was also awarded the Guru Sershat Award by the Royal Patiala Cultural and Welfare Society at Kalidas Auditorium NZCC.
